It has been proven that fertility treatments, such as in-vitro fertilization and fertility drugs, increase the fertility rate in women who are unable to conceive; however, these treatments are expensive and invasive. Acupuncture may help improve your chances of becoming a parent if you do not want to take artificial hormones, undergo surgery, or spend tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

What is Acupuncture for Fertility?

Acupuncture is a traditional form of Chinese medicine that has been practiced for more than 3,000 years. Ancient Chinese believed that Qi (pronounced chi) – life energy – can become imbalanced or blocked. This imbalance or blockage can be corrected and health and well-being restored by inserting extremely fine needles into the meridians.

Treatment with acupuncture can alleviate stress, pain, insomnia, and even anxiety. Additionally, it may be used to treat infertility. But how? The following are some ways that this ancient, holistic medicine may be able to help with conception:

· It may increase hormone production. Many forms of fertility treatment use synthetic hormones or medicines that increase hormone production because hormonal imbalances are among the most common causes of infertility.

It is also believed that acupuncture can increase hormone levels, which in turn stimulate reproductive organs. It helps females release eggs properly, regulates their cycles, and increases their chances of becoming pregnant. In men, it may increase sperm production; it also improves the quality of sperm, which can increase the chances of fertilization.

· Improved blood flow in the reproductive organs. The process of acupuncture for fertility involves placing needles at strategic locations throughout the body to affect the reproductive system. By doing so, it is believed that blood flow to these organs will be improved.

Increasing blood flow to the uterus, for example, can help thicken the uterine lining, the part of the body where a fertilized egg becomes implanted. Enhancing blood flow to the testes may help minimize inflammation and boost sperm production, thereby increasing the chances of sperm fertilizing the egg.

· Reduced stress levels. Stress levels have been found to have a negative effect on fertility. When women and men are under a lot of stress, their hormone levels can become out of balance, which can affect their ability to conceive.

Infertility issues can elevate stress levels even further and make conception even more difficult. The presence of endorphins, naturally occurring chemicals that promote relaxation, is one of the ways acupuncture reduces stress levels. A relaxed body leads to increased fertility.

Does It Work?

Acupuncture is also not guaranteed to offer positive results; the same is true for fertility treatments. However, acupuncture has helped many men and women who were having a hard time conceiving to successfully get pregnant.

Some information about Garden City, NY

Garden City is an incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the village was 22,371.

In 1869, the Irish-born millionaire Alexander Turney Stewart bought a portion of the lightly populated Hempstead Plains. In a letter, Stewart described his intentions for Garden City:

Having been informed that interested parties are circulating statements to the effect that my purpose in desiring to purchase the Hempstead Plains is to devote them to the erection of tenement houses, and public charities of a like character, etc. I consider it proper to state that my only object in seeking to acquire these lands is to devote them to the usual purposes for which such lands, so located, should be applied that is, open them by constructing extensive public roads, laying out the lands in parcels for sale to actual settlers, and erecting at various points attractive buildings and residences, so that a barren waste may speedily be covered by a population desirable in every respect as neighbour taxpayers and as citizens. In doing this I am prepared and would be willing to expend several millions of dollars.

The central attraction of the new community was the Garden City Hotel, designed by the acclaimed firm of McKim, Mead & White. Although the original structure, as well as that which replaced it at the end of the 19th century, were torn down years ago after a fire, a rebuilt hotel still stands on the original grounds, as do many nearby Victorian homes. Access to Garden City was provided by the Central Railroad of Long Island, another Stewart project which he undertook at the same time. The railroad’s Hempstead Branch opened in 1873.
