The Chinese developed acupuncture some 3,000 years ago, making it an ancient form of eastern medicine. It is believed by Chinese people that Qi (chi) flows throughout the body. Physical and mental health can be negatively affected when the flow of energy is blocked or imbalanced. The purpose of acupuncture is to insert very thin, sterile needles into strategic points along the meridians, or the pathways through which Qi flows. Qi flow and overall health and well-being can be restored as a result.

Countless people in Nassau County have been using acupuncture as a way to treat a variety of ailments for centuries. Here are some excellent reasons to schedule an appointment with a Nassau County acupuncture company if you’ve ever considered Chinese acupuncture but haven’t yet done so.

It’s Versatile

Many ailments can be treated with acupuncture. The following conditions have been proven to be effective with this treatment:

  • Migraines
  • Lower back pain
  • Knee pain
  • Arthritis pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Labor pain
  • Neck pain
  • Cancer
  • Respiratory health conditions

This type of medicine is so effective that it can even aid with fertility; many infertile couples have conceived a child using acupuncture fertility treatments.

Given all of the maladies that it can treat, it’s no wonder why so many people consider it a cure-all.

It’s Natural

Medicines can be effective, but they contain a lot of chemicals and ingredients you can’t even pronounce. For chronic headaches, back pain, or any other aches and pains that you might be experiencing, you may want to consider acupuncture instead of popping pain relievers all the time.

It’s Been Around Forever

It hasn’t been around forever, but it has been around for a long time. More than 3,000 years ago, the Chinese practiced acupuncture. The longevity of this treatment is a true testament to its efficiency. If it didn’t work, why would people be using it for so long?

It’s Safe

Acupuncture is extremely safe. An acupuncturist practicing in a clean environment uses sterile, single-use needles and receives years of training. Most people report very little to no pain, and there may be a touch of soreness at the site of the needle injections. However, the risks are very low, and the most common side effects are bruising and soreness at the site of the injections. However, certain types of acupuncture may not be suitable for you if you are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder, or have a pacemaker. To determine if there are any risks, an acupuncturist will discuss your health history.

It’s Not Scary

Many people who are curious about acupuncture shy away from it for one reason: they’re afraid of needles. It’s understandable to be nervous when several needles are inserted throughout your body; however, you needn’t worry.

Most people do not even notice that the needles are there because they are so fine and are inserted so shallowly into the skin that they don’t even notice them. You might feel a small twinge or slight warmth as the needles are being inserted, but those sensations usually wear off quickly; if you experience them at all.

It’s Relaxing

Who wouldn’t benefit from a little relaxation? Even for a short while, acupuncture allows you to put everything on hold. The acupuncturist places the needles, then leaves you alone (the length of time varies with each treatment, but it’s usually 30 minutes on average). There’s nothing better than spending some time alone with your own thoughts during this peaceful time. In fact, you might be so relaxed that you may drift off for a little bit! Go with it!

The best part is that the relaxed feeling usually continues after the treatment has ended. Stress relief is one of the top benefits of acupuncture!
